Mayabunder is located in the north of the Middle Andaman. Its distance from Port Blair by the road is 242kms and by the sea is 157kms. It is situated near Rangat in the Andaman.

Mayabunder is usually not in “must to visit” list of the visitors to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It is a lesser known tourist spot. Mayabunder is home to a large minority of former Burmese Karen tribes. Mayabunder is surrounded by mangrove swamps all around the island. People can find long stretch of grey volcanic sand and shallow waters all over the beaches in this area. It is linked via the Andaman Trunk Road from Port Blair to Baratang to Rangat. The bus service is available on the daily basis for the commuters. Another way to reach this place can be through the ferry. The ferry takes around 9 to 10hours, depending on the weather conditions. It is an exhausting journey via ferry. You may also see various tribes on the journey. It is highly recommended not to click their photographs and videos. Anybody found doing is will be highly punishable for the offence.

For commuting through the place, local transport like the bus service and jeep rides are available. There is no provision for hiring the two wheelers at this place. You can rent a jeep at the Sea’N’Sand.

There is limited accommodated in Mayabunder. It is slowly developing but not yet fully developed. The place is occupied with guesthouses owned by the locals. The best option for staying in Mayabunder is Sea’N’Sand. There are also various cheap lodges available. The only restaurant with the traces of multi cuisine is Kadai in Sea’N’Sand in Mayabunder. Seafood barbeque is also available.

There are small shops in the market for snacks, etc. the main market is always well stocked with fresh fruits and vegetables.
